About Bairing

Bairing is a forward-deployed AI consultancy. We help UK businesses put AI and bespoke software to work by first mapping how their operations run. Engagements begin with a 48-hour Diagnostic and develop into an Operating Map of the business, on which we build AI agents and custom applications.

02

Role overview

AI only delivers value when it fits how a business really operates. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you own Bairing’s work inside a client’s environment. Embedded directly with client teams, you adapt our tools and agents to their data, workflows and operational challenges, working alongside our commercial and engineering teams to make each deployment a success.

You enjoy solving problems and take pride in earning clients’ confidence as part of a wider team. You’ll run discovery sessions, configure and deploy AI agents, integrate with client systems, and resolve issues across data, models and workflows. Candidates from a range of backgrounds could be well suited to this role, including software engineering, data, consulting and operations.

03

What you’ll own

  • Production problem-solving. Diagnose issues across our tools, the model, the data or the client’s workflow. Work across both Bairing’s systems and the client’s environment to resolve them, and keep the client informed through to resolution.
  • Real-world evaluation. Design and run evaluations against real client workflows, checking outputs against agreed requirements so that solutions perform reliably in production.
  • Platform integration. Integrate our tools with each client’s data, processes and software, working within their existing systems and infrastructure.
  • Client insight. Lead discovery sessions with client teams and translate their needs and constraints into clear requirements. Feed that insight back to Bairing’s engineering and product teams to shape what we build next.
  • Continuous improvement. Tailor agents and knowledge bases to each client’s workflows and preferences, and build feedback loops that turn user input into ongoing improvements across the engagement.
  • Judgement and best practice. Decide what to build, what to defer, and when to push back on requests that would compromise quality. Capture what works as repeatable approaches that strengthen every future engagement.
04

What makes you a great fit

  • Strong problem-solving skills, and the persistence to track down issues wherever they sit.
  • Solid technical foundations: a working knowledge of Python, and confidence with APIs, data formats such as JSON, and reading production code.
  • Hands-on experience with modern AI tools, including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agentic workflows and evaluating model outputs.
  • The willingness and ability to learn how different businesses operate. You’ll spend significant time with client teams, learning their processes and systems. Prior industry experience is helpful, but what matters most is how quickly you build understanding and earn credibility with the people you work with.
  • Experience delivering AI or software solutions in client or production environments, where they had to perform reliably on real-world data.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfort with ambiguity: you make sound decisions with incomplete information, and you know when to act and when to ask.
  • Willingness to travel when needed, from single-day client visits to longer on-site engagements.
05

Desirable qualifications

  • Experience within SME operations.
  • Experience integrating with business systems such as Microsoft 365, CRM or accounting platforms.
  • Experience building or leading a forward-deployed, solutions engineering or client delivery function at an early-stage company.
  • Open-source contributions or published work in AI or machine learning.
06

What we offer

  • Hybrid working, with a week together as a whole team every month.
  • Exposure to a wide range of businesses, sectors and challenges.
  • Significant ownership, and the opportunity to shape how Bairing delivers as the company grows.
